Inscription
In Memory of Mary Phelps, daughter of Ralph & Mary C. Olmsted, wife of George R. Ives of Great Barrington who fell asleep Oct 3, 1855 aged 37 years, 5 mos and 25 days.
"Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God." Inscription on marker for Mary Phelps Ives. "When I beneath the cold red earth am sleeping, "Life's fever O'er, will there for me be any bright eye weeping. That I'm no more? Will be be any heart still memory keeping. Of heretofore? It may be so, - but this is selfish sorry. To ask such need – A weakness and a wickedness to borrow, from the hears that bleed. The wailings of today, for what tomorrow, shall never end. Lay me then gently in my narrow dwelling. Thou gentle hear; and tho they bosom should with grief be swelling, let no tear start, it were in vain – for time hath long been kneeling, sad one depart."
