John Warren Abreu, an English professor having taught at the School of Visual Arts and John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, died on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at home. He was 66 years old. The son of John L. and Beatriz V. Gonsalves Abreu, he was born on May 1, 1941 in New York, NY. He was the widower of Maria Abreu. Survivors include: his brothers and sisters: Yvonne Leona Sullivan (De Abreu), Mary Eugenia De Abreu, Francis Xavier De Abreu, Nello Natalio De Abreu, Xenia Annette Christiansen (De Abreu) and Leonard Windor De Abreu; his brother-in-law, Andres Delgado and his wife, Maria, of Middletown; sisters-in-law: Carmen Delgado & Teresa Jeanpierre, both of New York, and Sonia Beogado and her husband, Marcelino, of Stony Point, N.Y.; as well as many nieces and nephews. There will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550 or to Greenpeace, 702 H Street, NW, Suite 300, Washington, D.C. 20001. Arrangements are under the direction of Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouk-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc., Middletown, N.Y.
