JOHN WRIGHT KILLED IN SOUTH PACIFIC
Staff Sergeant John A. Wright, age 34, a bombardier with the United States Air Forces, has been killed in action over Alexi Shafen, New Guinea, according to word received Monday morning by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Wright, Sr., of Stockdale [Pa]. His death occurred November 9, 1943, according to the message from the War Department.

Staff Sergeant Wright was born in Collier, W. Va., February 8, 1909., but most of his life was spent in this vicinity, attending the Elco school and California high school. A former marine, who had served in the Pacific prior to this war, he was inducted into the Army on March 23, 1942.

Before leaving this country on July 7, 1943, he visited here with three other members of the bomber crew.

Staff Sergeant Wright had a host of friends, not only in this valley, but throughout the county as well, being chief clerk in the Voters' Registration office at Washington, Pa.

He was active in politics and was one of the organizers of the Democratic Boosters Club.

Besides his parents he has a brother, Kenneth, a sister, Mrs. Werton Mankin, of Roscoe, and his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Wright.
