August was born January 24, 1914 near Marysville, KS, the son of Bernard and Sophie (Bornhorst) Kathe. He attended St. Gregory's Catholic School until the 8th grade.
On October 31, 1959 he married Hermina Dwerlkotte at St. Gregory's. She preceded him in death on December 28, 2001.
August enjoyed farming, his family, coon hunting, trapping and fishing.
He was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church.
August was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and ten siblings, Marie Lewis, Louise Sheair, Margaret Osterhaus, Herman Kathe, Francis Kathe, Kathleen Bruna, Raymond "Jack" Kathe, and infants Henry, Helen and Elizabeth Kathe.
Survivors include two sons, Robert (Linda) Dwerlkotte, Hutchinson, KS, and Bernard (Mary Hess) Kathe, Fairbury, NE; sisters, Alice Schmitz, Marysville, and Ann Brychta, Denison, TX.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Marysville, KS. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
