Martha "Jane" (McGough) McCormick, 98, of Carlisle, died at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, June 17, 2012. She was born in Altoona, on Tuesday, July 8, 1913, daughter of the late Arthur McGough and Anna (McCullough) McGough. She was the widow of Charles "Mac" Vincent McCormick whom she married on August 17, 1936.
Jane graduated from Altoona High School. She enjoyed working throughout her lifetime and was still preparing her own taxes until the age of 88. Jane was a lifelong and devoted Catholic. She was an outstanding card player, enjoying poker, bridge and pinochle. Jane loved to travel and was especially fond of cruising. Sunday dinner was a pleasure for her, as she enjoyed her husband's cooking. Jane was a devoted mother and grandmother and adored her family. She had a sweet personality, which quickly became evident to everyone who met her. Jane will be dearly missed by her loving family and others who were fortunate to have known her.
Jane's survivors include her loving daughter, Suzanne Cassarly and her husband James of Mechanicsburg; her four grandchildren, William Cassarly and his wife Mary Sue of Ohio, Mary JoAnn Burnett and her husband Jeff of Shrewsbury, Robert Patrick Cassarly and his wife Melanie of New York, John Michael Cassarly and his wife Tammy of Virginia; and her seven great-grandchildren. Among those preceding Jane in death are two sisters, Carolyn Szink and Ann Klesius.
All are welcome to join Jane's family at her viewing on Monday, June 25, 2012, from 8:30 until 9:30 with a Rosary to be prayed at 9:15 at Myers-Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 400 East Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Reverend David Hereshko celebrating. Burial will follow at 1:45 in Calvary Cemetery in Altoona. Honored to be pallbearers are: Jim Cassarly, Bill Cassarly, Bob Cassarly, John Cassarly, and Jeff Burnett.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Business Office, 1000 Claremont Road, Carlisle, PA 17013 or St. Jude's Children and Research Hospital, Tribute #31097004, PO Box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
