Funeral services for the late
Mrs. Pernetta Jane Shipley, the
widow of Milton Shipley and for
many years a resident of this
county, were held at the Methodist
Protestent church in Elwood
Thursday morning, and attended
by many relatives and friends
from this county.
Mrs. Shipley was one of the pioneers
of Tipton county, having been born in
Madison township, March 13, 1854, and
at the age of 22 was united in marriage
to Milton Shipley, whose death
occurred over thirty years ago.
Her parents were Amos and Elizabeth
Hanshew. Five chileren, Mrs. Julia
Walser, of Elwood, at whose home the
mother died; Mrs. Catherine
Conard, of Warren; Mrs. Pauline
Shell, of Anderson; Cyrus Shipley,
of Greentown; and Clinton Shipley,
of Richmond, survive. Other
survivors are a sister, Mrs. John
Sosbe, of Elwood; twenty-five
grandchildren and twenty-five
great-grandchildren.
Rev. E. L. Ferris of the Elwood
church officiated at the services
and there were many flowers.
Interment was beside the
husband in the New Lancaster cemetery.
