JAMES HILLIARD, FORMER GROCER, TAKEN BY DEATH
James Oliver Hilliard, 70, resident of this city for nearly half a century, died in a local hospital Monday morning. He had been in ill health for about a year, but had been confined to the hospital for only 10 days. Mr. Hilliard at one time operated a grocery business here, and later was employed by the Stedman company. For a number of years, he operated Hilliard's Log Cabin on railroad avenue and on Mariposa, but for the past five years he has been retired. He was a member of the First Christian church. Funeral services will be held at the Carroll-Wallace funeral chapel at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Tom Minyard, Christian church minister, will officiate. Interment will be in Magnolia cemetery. Surviving Mr. Hilliard are his wife, Mrs. Minda Moore Hilliard; two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Douglas and Mrs. Valda Tuttle, both of this city; two sons, Cecil O. Hilliard of Houston and Clyde Hilliard of Beaumont; one brother, Elton Hilliard of Hull, and six grandchildren.
