Arden Earl Literal, age 82, died Oct. 24, 2009, at Good Samaritan Nursing Facility.
Arden was born Sept. 21, 1927, in Dayton, Wash., to Virgil and Hellen Literal. He graduated from Dayton High School in 1947.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1948 and served during the Korean War as a mail clerk with a good portion of his active enlistment spent in Kodiak, Alaska. In 1952, he entered into the Naval Reserve where he served the next 16 years as a photographer.
Arden attended the University of Idaho, receiving a B.S. in education and a master's in industrial education. He then worked as a photographer for both UI and WSU capturing social and athletic events of the schools.
Arden met Wilma Joy Flaherty through the Pullman Square Dance Club and married her Feb. 15, 1986.
He had many hobbies, including photography, music, square dancing and the collecting of fine antiques.
Arden is survived by his wife, Joy Literal, of Moscow, Idaho; his brother, Harley Literal, of Republic, Wash.; three step-daughters; two step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
A service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Fairview Estates in Moscow. Donations may be made to Good Samaritan Society, Moscow Village, and Fairview Village Estates Staff Healthcare Endowment Fund. Contact Rhonda Jo Styer at (208) 882-9809 with questions.
