CLEARFIELD- E. Keith Bybee, 85, passed away peacefully Friday morning June 15, 2012. He was born December 27, 1926, a son of Lawrence Elmer Bybee and Katherine May Bushell. Keith hated the name Elmer and never went by it and would ignore anyone who referred to him by his first name.

Keith grew up an only child in Ogden, Utah. During the summers he and his friends would go to the dairy and for a nickel you could buy all of the buttermilk you could drink. Up to 2 weeks ago he still loved buttermilk and could finish a half-gallon in one sitting. Keith attended Ogden High School. In March 1945 Keith joined the US Navy and served on the USS Mustin, the USS Killen, and the USS Bryant in the Asiatic Pacific. After his return home in July 1946 from war he arranged to elope with his high school sweetheart, Mar Jean Hone. When Mar Jean's parents found out they talked Mar Jean into waiting until Mar Jean graduated from high school. During Mar Jean's senior year, she contracted Brights-disease and died just before graduation.

On August 20, 1948, Keith married Helen Betty Allred of Ogden. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married for 57 years.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where Keith served in many priesthood callings. His very favorite was a home teacher greeter at their beautifully decorated home on Birch Street. He served in the Ogden Temple as an ordinance worker.

His hobbies were hunting, fishing and camping in the mountains. He also played golf and worked in the yard. He especially loved sitting on the patio at the cabin looking at beautiful Bear Lake Valley drinking a diet coke.

He retired from Hill Air Force Base and then drove the Special Ed school bus for 15 years with his daughter Jo Roundy and later his wife Betty.

He enjoyed his life to the fullest and loved to go for rides. His favorite question was, Where do you want to go eat? He loved cooking fried oysters for friends and neighbors on New Year's Eve and made life-long friends.

Surviving are his two daughters Jo (Garr) Roundy, Clearfield; Jan (John) DeBoer, Farr West; one son, Scott (Chris) Bybee, Syracuse; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Preceding Keith in death were his wife Betty, his oldest granddaughter, Jennifer DeBoer, and his parents.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family that morning from 9:45 to 10:45 at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to Chris, Phil, and the Vista Care Hospice Team and especially Necha and Helen for taking such great care of Dad in his final days.
