DEATH SUMMONS TRAINED NURSE
Mrs, Bessie DeRushia Dies Friday; Buried Near Old Home at Remus.
---------
Mrs. Bessie Amy DeRushia, 46, of 1214 dean Street, a trained nurse for many years, died at her home last Friday morning at 10 o'clock following an illness which began nearly a year ago. Her difficulty at first appeared to be a respiratory ailment which could not be relieved, rapidly developing into a fatal condition. Cancer of the lungs. For weeks past she has been cared for by her three sisters, Mrs. Edmund Dehne of Chicago, also a trained nurse; Mrs. Alfred Little of Lansing, and Bert Gilmore of Remus, and everything that skill and affection could suggest was done to contribute the patient's confort during her last days. Also with her during her sickness and at the end was her one, Frederick F. DeRushia.
Funeral rite were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the house and many relatives from Mrs. DeRushis's old home at Remus were among those attending. Rev. Albert J. Anthony of the Presbyterian church conducted the service and Mrs. H. Moore sang two beautiful hymns, "Abide With Me" and "The City Foursquare." The body was then taken to Remus, Michigan, and internment was made in Roberts Cemetery in that community. Pall bearers were from among the relatives.
Bessie Inez Amy, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Amy, was born January 29, 1890 at Tekonsha, Michigan and was one of a large family of children. Early in life she moved with her parents to Remus where the family located on a farm. With her sisters and brothers. Bessie attended the grade school and high school and continued her education at the State Teachers College in Mt. Pleasant. With her sister, Effie, she decided to take up nursing as a profession and came to Alma to train at Dr. Ira N. Brainerd's then thriving hospital. She graduated from the nursing school in1915.
Mrs. DeRushis has nursed in Gratiot county, Saginaw and Howell Sanitarium, and was a kind and untiring nurse beloved by her patients, many of whom visited and comforted her in her last illness.
She is survived by her one son, Frederick F. DeRushia, two brothers, three sisters, and many friends.

Gravesite Details

Three sources; Bessie's death record, obituary, and her father's civil war pension application are in agreement, that she was born, 29 Jan 1890, not in 1888 as shown on her grave stone.
