Daughter of Capt. Garrett Dunbar and Catherine Ann Bedell, wife of Francis Chase Barteau, whom she married in 1870, and mother of Harriet Chase Barteau (married William Woodhull Hulse) and Mary Frances Barteau (married John Richard L'Hommedieu).

Wife of Sylvester Selleck and mother of Ethel Selleck (married Ira Gregory Rogers).

In 1880, Jane S. Bartoe, aged 33, widowed, was living in Brookhaven, NY in the home of her parents, Garret Dunbar, aged 74, a bayman, and Katherine Dunbar, aged 70, with her daughters, Hattie S. Bartoe, aged 10, and Mary F. Bartoe, aged 9.

February 26, 1937- A party was given last Thursday in honor of Mrs. Synthia Jane Selleck of Bellport, who celebrated her ninety-first birthday by holding an open house at her home in Woodland Park. Mrs. Selleck is the daughter of late Garrett and Catherine Ann Dunbar, born on South Ocean Avenue, Patchogue, in the old John Prior homestead, February 18, 1846. She spent the early years of her life in Patchogue. She was the wife of Sylvester Selleck, a plumber by trade, in Patchogue and Bellport. Mrs. Selleck has three daughters, Mrs. W. W. Hulse of Patchogue, Mrs. Ira G. Rogers of Bellport, and Mrs. John R. L'Hommedieu of East Norwalk, Conn. Mrs. Selleck received many flowers and other tokens of esteem. Among those who called to pay their respects were: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Anderson, Freeport; Mrs. Miller Gordon, Mrs. Nellie C. Gordon, Mrs. Grace Raynor, Mrs. Hobart Rogers, Mrs. Henry Luhman and son Conrad, Mrs. William Hulse, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Armstrong, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Conklin, and Miss Serena Weidner, all of Patchogue; Mrs. Carrie Hawkins, Mrs. Leonard Hawkins, Mrs. Marie L. Corwin, Mrs. Edward Rogers, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Weidner, Mr. and Mrs. Ira G. Rogers, Ira G. Rogers, Jr., the Misses Ruth and Virginia Rogers, all of Bellport, and Mrs. John R. L'Hommedieu, of East Norwalk, Conn.
