BEAR RIVER CITY - LaVon B. Nelson, 86, of Bear River City, returned to her Heavenly Father, on December 13, 2003, following a brief illness, at Brigham City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on September 3, 1917, the daughter of William Lester and Jennie LaVon Malmrose Barker. She married Raymond Nels Nelson on December 17, 1942 in Brigham City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on August 5, 1954. Raymond died on January 26, 1993.
She worked for several years in the school lunch program. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of her life. She served in the presidency of the Primary and Relief Society and was a teacher in the Sunday School, Primary, and Relief Society and served as a visiting teacher and an active member of the D.U.P. With her husband she served as an
ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple for 10 1/2 years.
Her greatest treasures were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. LaVon was a very kind, loving and gentle lady, who was dearly loved by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children: Richard E. (Joy) Nelson, DeeAnn (Don)Christensen, Gary R. Nelson, Dennis B. (Judy) Nelson all of Bear River City;
Pamela (David) Peterson of Bountiful, and Paul W. (Lezlie) Nelson, of Nibley; two Sisters, Blanche (Jay) Christensen of Bountiful and Sheryl Ann Rasmussen of Brigham; 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers at a very early age, one sister, Doris Stander, and one grandson, Jeremy Nelson.
Funeral Services were held at on Thursday, December 18, at the Bear River LDS Chapel.
Interment at the Bear River City Cemetery.
