1880 U.S. Census for Calapooia, Douglas Co., Oregon:
James Sutherlin M 34 Indiana, United States
WIFE Eliza J. Sutherlin F 30 yrs, b. 1850 Oregon
SON Joseph E. Sutherlin M 12 yrs, b. 1868 Oregon
DAU Maggie M. Sutherlin F 8 yrs, b. 1872 Oregon
DAU Annie M. Sutherlin F 6 yrs, b. 1874 Oregon
SON James F. Sutherlin M 4 yrs, b. 1876 Oregon
SON John C. Sutherlin M 2 yrs, b. 1878 Oregon
DAU Allie Sutherlin F 6 mos, b. Jan. 1880 Oregon

James was a stockraiser. Eliza's father was b. KY and her mother, SC.

James' father, John Franklin Sutherlin, died 3 April 1885 and his Will states that his son James was deceased. The Will is dated May 1884, so James apparently died after this census and before May 1884.

Interestingly, John Franklin Sutherlin's Will states:
"To the children of my son James P. Sutherlin deceased, I give and bequeath Three Hundred Dollars provided the estate of James P. Sutherlin first pay my claim against said estate."

John Franklin apparently was in the habit of loaning monies to his children as several of the Will bequests required the paying off of the loans prior to receiving the bequests.
