Joseph Villiot dit LaTour was born in 1818 in Quebec (probably Ste-Anne-des-Plaines, Terrebonne, Québec, Canada) as the fourth child of Sebastian Villiot dit Latour and Josephte-Angelique Desautels. He had eleven siblings, namely:

When he was 17, he married Francoise Lavigne, daughter of Charles Lavigne and Elenne Bisson, on 26 Oct 1835 in Notre Dame, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. They had two children, a girl (1836-1836) and Henriette (1847-1847), both who died shortly after birth. His wife died in 1847 shortly before the death of the 2nd child.
After their deaths, when Joseph was 30, he married Sophie Potel Complaisance, daughter of Joseph Potel Complaisance and Sophie Lacharité, on 03 Jul 1848 at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Joseph and Sophie had 7 children together, although only 3 children survived early childhood. All were born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. They were

Joseph Villiot dit LaTour was also known as Joseph Villiot and Joseph Bastian. In 1875, Joseph, Sophie, Joseph John, Charles and Cordelia are living in St Paul, Minnesota. Joseph is listed as a stone cutter in the 1880 census.
After Sophie died in 1881, he married Margaret Breault, widow of Amable Anger, and daughter of Joseph Breault and Marguerite L'Heureux, on 26 Nov 1882 at St. Louis, King of France church in St Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota.
Their marriage only lasted about four years. Joseph died on 18 Feb 1887 in St Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota and was buried in Calvary Cemetery, St. Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota. Cause of Death is listed as accidental.
