Glenn F. Geiger, age 85, of Columbus, died Wednesday, November 6, 2002 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Born May 15, 1917 on a farm in Kenton, Oh., the son of Ulysses Grant and Clara Canter Grant. Survived by wife, Dorothy (Ricci) Geiger; step-daughters, Laura (David) Enlow and Diana (Ralph) Howes; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Mr. Geiger received his Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University with a major in Animal Husbandry. During WW II he served in the U.S. Marine Corps from May 1942 through May 1946. He was ranked as a pistol sharpshooter and a rifle sharpshooter. He was wounded while serving in the South Pacific receiving a bullet in his left thigh. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Presidential Testimonial. He participated in the initial capture and defense of Guadalcanal. After considerable losses, the island was captured. He also participated in the capture of Tarawa Atoll and participated in the assault and capture of Saipan Marianas Islands. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High Street ( mile South of I-270), where funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2002. Pastor John Shroyer presiding. Interment to follow at Kingwood Memorial Park.
