Nebraska Governor. A member of the Republican Party, he served as the Governor of Nebraska from 1967 to 1971. Raised in the farming community of Wausa, Nebraska, he served with the US Army during World War II (he was stationed in the South Pacific) and upon his return home, he attained his BS from the University of Nebraska. He acquired a background in banking, when he entered the political arena, being elected to and serving as mayor his hometown of Wausa, Nebraska. During his tenure as governor, he prioritized tax reform earmarked revenue generated for the purpose of bettering schools. In addition, he spearheaded efforts for the establishment of a Department of Economic Development. After his governorship, he served as federal highway administrator and worked for an investment banking firm.
