MT. VERNON — — Michael D. Brown, 53, of Wichita Falls, Texas, and formerly of Dix, passed away Saturday morning, June 16, 2012, as a result of a motorcycle accident in Wichita Falls.

He was born Feb. 13, 1959, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., the son of Floyd and Shirley (Bailey) Brown.

Mr. Brown was retired from the U.S. Air Force, as a Tech. Sgt., and had worked on Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls. He served in Germany, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Texas, and was a Blue Beret. He also worked in Mt. Vernon at Johnson The Florist and United Mine Supply. He was an avid stamp collector and licensed ham radio operator, and enjoyed talking with his dad and brother twice every week. His call sign was KK5ZB. He graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School and was a member of Au Sable Lodge #243 A.F. & A. M. in Oscoda, Mich.

He is survived by his parents, Floyd and Shirley Brown of Dix; a sister, Sharon Bean and husband Greg of Dix; a brother, Timothy Brown of Johnsonville; two nieces, Angie Gorman and Diana Chamness; two nephews, Daniel and Joshua Brown; three aunts; two uncles; and great nephews and a great niece.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, two aunts, and an uncle.

Graveside services for Mr. Brown will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, with Jerry Montgomery and Jack Lucas officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix. Masonic funeral rites by Mt. Vernon Lodge 31 A.F. & A. M. will begin at 7:30 p.m.
