Olen "Doc" Stauffer
(March 18, 1930 - June 19, 2012)

Olen Ralph "Doc" Stauffer, 82, Yates Center, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Yates Center Healthcare.

He was born on the family farm near Hamilton in Greenwood County, Kansas, the son of Ralph and Nina (Hainey) Stauffer. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Hamilton High School. After high school Olen attended Kansas State College and in 1957 he earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. After college Doc was employed in Eureka for a short time and then moved to Yates Center to start his own small and large animal practice. The same year Olen moved to Yates Center he married Donna Rose Morris on November 10, 1957, in Riley, Kansas, and to this union were born two sons, Leonard and Leon, and one daughter, Lori. Olen owned and operated his own clinic until his retirement in 2008.

Olen served on the Board of Education for Woodson School District #366, and was a member of the Kansas Veterinary Medicine Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Parker Christy; a step-grandchild Airiel; a brother, Elver Stauffer; and two sisters, Velda Hatch and Bessie Marlar.

He is survived by his wife Donna, of the home; his sons, Leonard Stauffer and wife Nancy of Hutchinson and Leon Stauffer of Yates Center; his daughter, Lori Christy of Silver Lake; four grandchildren; a sister, Clyta Wassen of Arizona; many other relatives and friends.

Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 22, 2012, at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center, with burial following in Yates Center Cemetery. Dr. Stauffer will lie in state at Campbell Funeral Home Thursday afternoon.

Memorial contributions to the Woodson County 4-H Association may be sent in care of Campbell Funeral Home, P.O. Box 188, Yates Center, KS 66783.
