VARNUM FATALLY INJURED
New York, March 26.- Col James M Varnum, formerly surrogate of New York county and once a member of the assembly, was fatally injured tonight when his automobile, in which he, with his wife and Miss Mary Frink, a relative were being driven to the theater, collided with a Broadway surface car. Col. Varnum suffered a fracture of the skull. He was hurried to a hospital and died shortly after arriving. The women were not seriously injured.
