Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville, for Mrs. Sophia Brunig, 83, of Branch, who died Saturday at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc. The Rev. Donald T. Stannard officiated and burial was in Branch Evergreen Cemetery.
Mrs. Brunig, the former Sophia Benishek, was born Oct. 16, 1884, at Fayette, Mich., daughter of the late Wencil and Barbara Benishek, and was married Oct. 16, 1906, to Charles Brunig. The couple farmed on the homestead, and he died Jan. 20, 1946. She was a charter member of the Branch Homemakers Club and belonged to the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors are a son, Donald, of Branch; a daughter, Mrs. Stephen (Calla) Swetlik of Manitowoc; a brother, James Sr., of Branch; a sister, Mrs. Edward Hessel, of Francis Creek; 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Two daughters and four sisters preceded her in death.
