FLORENCE HALLWACHS HACKEL

Florence W. Hackel, age 92, died on March 26, 2009, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center in Manitowoc while surrounded by her loving family.
Florence was born Feb. 3, 1917, in Whitelaw to the late Charles and Flora (Mayer) Freidenberger. On Nov. 22, 1939, she married Harley F. Hallwachs. Harley preceded her in death Nov. 28, 1962. On Feb. 14, 1970, Florence married Joseph C. Hackel in Little Chute, and they enjoyed more than 32 years of marriage together. Joseph preceded her in death July 20, 2002.
Florence was a homemaker for most of her life, raising her four children on a farm south of Manitowoc. She worked at Kresge's, Fehr's Jewelers and Manitowoc Engineering before marrying Joseph and completing the raising of his children in Little Chute. Florence loved gardening and she and Joe were active in the Paper Valley Garden Club, of which she was past president.
Survivors include her four children: Donald (Deanna) Hallwachs, Two Rivers; Richard (Michele) Hallwachs, Clover; Kenneth (Lorna) Hallwachs, Lakeside, Calif.; Judith (Lynn) Helke, Newton; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; nine step children: George (Val) Hackel; Trish (Jim) Lenhart, Lee (Dot) Hackel, Marla (Paul) Garber; Tim (Pat) Hackel, Donna (Judd) Vanden Heuvel, Jeff (Barb) Hackel, Dan (Jackie) Hackel, David Hackel; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Florence was preceded in death by one brother: Charles H. Freidenberger.
The family will greet relatives and friends at First Reformed United Church of Christ, 3613 Waldo Blvd., Manitowoc on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Rev. Richard Runge will officiate with burial to follow at Branch-Evergreen Cemetery. The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials in Florence's name to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Florence's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Shady Lane Nursing Care Center for the care and compassion they provided to their Mom.
