AMOS ⁶ BRAINARD, Jr.'s paternal line: (Amos⁵ Sr. , Elisha⁴ , Deacon Elijah³, Elijah², Daniel¹ )  was born 1795 the fourth of seven children born to Amos Brainerd, Sr. and Rachael Brainerd. b. Jan 28, 1770, Dau. of Dudley Brainerd and Mindwell Ackley of Haddam, CT.

His father, Amos Brainard Sr. one of the earliest settlers of Newburgh, Ohio made his western venture when nearly 50 years of age. He was a farmer and shoemaker, before coming to Newburgh and lived on a farm near Newburg, OH toiling early and late to clear it of the timber and heavy undergrowth that covered it.

Amos was 28 yrs old when his father, Amos Brainerd, Sr., met with a sudden and violent death. One day, in 1823, his father was in a field at work with a yoke of oxen, when a furious storm of wind and rain broke upon him, and while hastening back to his dwelling, a falling tree crushed out his life. 

Three years later in 1826, Amos, Jr. (my 3rd great grandfather) married in Coshocton, Ohio to LYDIA ANN THOMPSON , daughter of Adam and Elizabeth Thompson, b. Jun 6, 1805 in Savannah, Wayne County, NY. Lydia at the age of 38 died May 12, 1843 in Ohio.
Then on Dec 30, 1853 he married Jane Boyer.

About 1834 Amos moved from Wayne Co. New York to Tamer, Delaware Co, Ohio He was a farmer. Amos Brainard, Jr. died on March 26, 1870 in Defiance County, Ohio.

2. James ⁷ Brainerd b. 15 Jul 1828, Savannah, Wayne, NY (Evelyn Rowe Nelson's 2nd gt. grandfather)m. Catherine Violet Nicol, dau. of William May Nicol III and Margaret Pollock. 5 children but only three lived to adulthood.

3. Alva ⁷ Brainerd b. 1831, Savannah, Wayne, New York. Killed in 1862 in the battle of Pea Ridge in the Civil War. It is said he married and had 2 children.

4. Rachel ⁷ Brainerd [infant], b. 1833, Savannah, Wayne, New York d. 1833

5. Maria ⁷ Brainerd b. 1835 in Delaware Co., Ohio.

6. Ebenezer ⁷ Brainerd (infant) b. 1837 Died 1839 in Delaware Co., Ohio.

7. Julia ⁷ Brainerd (infant)b. 1839 d. 1839 in Delaware Co., Ohio.

8. A dau. ⁷ Brainerd (infant) b. 1841 d. 1841 in Delaware Co., Ohio.
