Virginia (Madison) Potocnik, 85 of Cherokee, KS died Sunday, June 17, 2012 at the Neosho Regional Medical Center in Chanute, KS.

She was born April 14, 1927 in Cherokee, KS the daughter of Mary (Garretson) Kellogg.

On March 4, 1944 she was united in marriage to Rudy Potocnik, Sr.; he preceded her in death on October 6, 1996.

She was an assistant cook at the Cherokee Grade School for 40 years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cherokee, where she was very active. She loved yard work and was a skilled quilter. She enjoyed time spent with her family, grandchildren and church family, especially the time she spent fishing with her husband Rudy.

Survivors include two sons: Rudy Potocnik, Jr. and wife Linda of Chanute, KS, and James Lee Potocnik and wife Katie of Altamont, KS; a sister Betty Serra of Capaldo, KS; eight Grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son Bobby Potocnik, two sisters: Fern Traylor and Hazel Altum, and a brother Junior Madison.

Funeral services will be 10 am, Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir with Rev. Jamie Tickel officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherokee City Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-7 pm Tuesday. Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, Weir, KS.
