Dr. Sharon Spiceland Connell, age 53, of Muscle Shoals, died Saturday, June 16, 2012. The funeral service will be Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church, Tuscumbia. Dr. Randy Thompson will officiate. Interment will be in Highland Park Cemetery, Mayfield, Kentucky.
Dr. Connell was a native of Mayfield, Kentucky and a graduate of Samford University and the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Optometry. Dr. Connell was very active in the community, serving as president of the board for Shoals Sav-A-Life, board member for Covenant Christian School, and a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. She was also a very active member of First Presbyterian Church, Tuscumbia.
Dr. Connell had a passion for Global Missions of Mercy, and she and her family contributed their services in Guatemala through First Baptist Church of Barton.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Jack Nolin Spiceland.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Keith Connell; children, Nolin and Claire Connell; mother, Mrs. Lucy Spiceland, of Muscle Shoals; sisters, Beverly Spiceland Prentice (Steve) of Owasso OK, and Gayle Spiceland Doersam (Gary) of Warren, IL; six nephews; and four nieces.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Shoals Sav-A-Life/Shoals Women's Clinic, 2201 Cloyd Boulevard, Florence, Alabama 35630.
