An American tourist, she was with her boyfriend vacationing in Aruba, when she disappeared. Although her boyfriend reported to Aruban police that she disappeared while snorkelling, and that he believed she was swept out to sea, the Police conducted an extensive search, but her body was never found. A camera video showed her with her boyfriend entering a beachfront eatery at 3:07 pm on the day she disappeared, and leaving the eatery with her boyfriend about 4:15 pm.

The Aruban Police believe that she was murdered by her boyfriend for the $3.5 million life insurance policy that he took out on her just before the vacation, but there is insufficient proof that she was murdered (no body). Her boyfriend in the case was arrested as he tried to leave Aruba on August 5, and was held until November due to inconsistencies in his story. Eventually, the Aruban Police released him and he returned to Maryland where he lived. As of June 2012, she is believed dead, but has not been officially declared dead in the US. The case remains open and unsolved.

Her story comes some five years after the disappearance of teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba, and brings reminders of that case, which is also currently unsolved.
