"He courted Mary Gable for eight years, six of them were when he was at school and abroad. June 24, 1916 was the day picked for the wedding. When the hour neared...where was Edward? He was up on the roof of a house he was working on clearing up a problem. Needless to say, tux and all made it to the ceremony on time. Their's was the first wedding in the new church (Prospect Park Methodist) which he also designed. it was built into the side of a hill which made it a little difficult."
During the depression, since there wasn't much work for architects building homes, he took a job with the public works surveying crew and helped design highways and other public works.
