Robert was buried in a private (on family farm?) cemetery. Later a farmer tore the grave markers out and farmed the land. The grave markers were transcribed by a member of the White County Genealogical Society who has possession of the grave markers.

Robert was the eldest of eight known children of John Rothrock (1779-1860) and Mary Ann (went by Annie) Keever Rothrock (1784-1822), who married 20 Mar 1806 at Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. Annie died in Pennsylvania and John remarried to Mrs. Sarah Hopper (c1795-1836). The family then moved to White County, Indiana in about 1831.

Robert first married to Eliza Means (1808-1833) on 06 Dec 1832 at White County, Indiana. It is not known where Eliza is buried. Robert and Eliza had no known children.

After Eliza died, Robert went back to Pennsylvania and remarried to Catherine McKee (1813-1855) on 28 Nov 1837 at Grandview, MifflinCounty, Pennsylvania and then they came back to White County, Indiana. Robert and Catherine were the parents of eight known children, namely:

1. Robert Rothrock Jr. (1838-1839)
2. Robert McKee Rothrock (1840-1897)
3. William Means Rothrock (1841-1909)
4. Mary Hannah Rothrock Sanderson (1844-1928)
5. Orpah Strode Rothrock Goodwin (1848-1929)
6. Hervey Pierce Rothrock (1850-1944)
7. John Ashley Rothrock (1853-1903)
8. Joseph Thaddeus Rothrock (1855-1900)

After Catherine died, Robert remarried to Elizabeth Mowrer (was Mowrer her maiden name or was she a widow?) (c1826-1889) on 17 Apr 1856 at White County, Indiana. Robert and Elizabeth were the parents of three known children, namely:

9. Kate Vorhees Rothrock Cowger (1857-1938)
10. James Rothrock (1861-1861)
11. Elizabeth G. Rothrock Worthington (1862-1886)

Pages 116 to 119 Robert Rothrock, born 19 Feb 1807, Mifflin Co, PA; died 17 Feb 1882, White County, IN.

1st Married on 6 Dec 1832, Mifflin Co, PA, Eliza Means, born 13 Oct 1808, Mifflin Co, PA; died 4 Dec 1833, White Co, IN. Eliza was the daughter of Robert and Hannah McKee Means and was a first cousin to Robert’s mother, Mary Ann Keever Rothrock.

When Robert was a young man of about 23 years of age, he traveled west to Indiana to obtain for his father and other interested relatives and friends, the opportunities of development of this new territory. It was a wilderness, and the dangers of the Indians still existed, but the country offered great possibilities.

In 1831, he returned to White Co, IN with his father and family and established a home there. Their enthusiastic reports to friends and relatives encouraged others from Mifflin County to migrate west. Robert returned to Mifflin County in 1833 and married Eliza and they settled in Union Township, White County, near his father. Eliza and Robert had no issue.

2nd Married on 28 Nov 1837, Mifflin Co, PA, Catherine McKee, born 7 Feb 1813, Mifflin Co, PA; died 20 Aug 1855, White Co, IN. Catherine was the daughter of Robert and Orpah Strode McKee and was a first cousin to Robert’s first wife, Eliza Means.

Robert and Catherine were active members of the community, attended the Christian Church, and helped with the establishing of the School House at Pike’s Creek. Robert was a farmer and they lived on a farm near Monticello, IN, the County Seat of White County. Robert entered the land at LaPorte, IN, in 1834, that the County Court House is built on.

Robert and Catherine had the following issue:

2 – Robert McKee Rothrock, b 10 Feb 1840; d 3 May 1897
3 – William Means Rothrock, b 2 Jul 1841; d 14 Apr 1909
4 – Mary Hannah Rothrock, b 4 Aug 1844; d 23 Nov 1928
5 – Orpah Strode Rothrock, b 6 May 1847; d 15 Dec 1929
6 – Hervey Pierce Rothrock, b 13 Feb 1850; d 11 Nov 1944
7 – John Ashley Rothrock, b 27 Jan 1853; d 29 May 1903 (unmarried)
8 – Joseph Thaddeus Rothrock, b 12 Jul 1855; d 10 Aug 1900

When Robert first came to White Co, IN, he received letters from relatives at home. Robert died intestate. On 8 July 1882, Hervey P Rothrock, Robert’s son, was appointed Administrator of his father’s estate.
