CORRECTING SEVERAL MYTHS
Timothy was killed as a Tory sympathizer ca 1784 by Col Ben Cleveland's troops.
His son Jabez was named an orphan in 1784 so his wife was also passed.

The marker on Timothy Perkins Sr is in error.
Timothy Perkins Sr married Miriam Sperry in Ct. during the 1770s and moved to NC.
His wife died in NC ca or before 1784 when her son was named orphan by the courts.
She did not marry again. She did not divorce Timothy.

Also, Timothy could not have married Ann Sturgill, dau of Francis Sturgill, of Alleghany Cty, as is often stated, in 1810/12, as Timothy Sr was long dead.
Ann may have married one of his descendants.
David Sturgill was in error when he mentioned Ann's wedding.

The marker was placed on a grave in the 1970s by good hearted descendants and replaced a field stone that said TP 1834.
It could be a Phipps, Pennington, Perkins etc.
It is not Timothy Sr.

Timothy Sr was killed elsewhere and no one knows where he was buried, probably at the site of his hanging.
