He passed away on Friday, August 29th, 2008 at his home.
He was raised in southern Idaho with short stays in California and Washington.
Doug and his family moved to Kennewick, Washington in March of 1966.
Doug was a dedicated Christian and enjoyed service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Forty-two years as a talented craftsman, Douglas was a journeyman carpenter and enjoyed the challenges of his craft. Douglas worked at Hanford and retired in 1997.
He especially loved construction and fabrication in a variety of projects including working on the Columbia River Temple, building an experimental airplane and inventing his own portable lumber mill.
Douglas also added to these talents the talent of music and guitar playing. He often could be found entertaining himself and his family in playing his Epiphone and singing.
Doug married Carolyn Mitchell in 1963 at Jerome, Idaho, and has been a proud father since 1964.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years and seven children: Todd (Judy) Furniss, Douglas (Claudine) Furniss, Shannon (Chuck) Thompson, Marc (Coyana) Furniss, Susan (Mark) Chidester, Eric (Syndee) Furniss and Lisa Furniss. Twenty-four grandchildren also grace the family.
Also surviving are his beloved sisters and brother: Beverly Fresh, Bonnie (Lee) Pielstick, Gloria (Neil) Potter, Mary (Ken) Gardner, Dick (Joyce) Furniss and Shirley (Don) Belisle.
Preceding Doug in passing are his father and mother as well as a brother, Stephen Furniss; sister, Barbara Rockwell; and two brothers-in-law, Merlin Fresh and Jerry Rockwell.
