Shawn Michael Blair, 22, of Sioux City died Saturday, May 12, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital. Police say that Shawn was stabbed after an argument with a stranger. Blair was stabbed once in his upper left side and died from internal bleeding.
Services will be noon Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Larkin Northside Chapel.
Shawn was born Nov. 17, 1984, in Sioux City. He attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School, Heelan High School and North High School. He graduated from Western Iowa Tech Community College with degrees in welding and auto mechanics. He paid for his college by working as a cook at Sweet Fannie's Restaurant. He was working as a welder at Smithco in Le Mars, Iowa.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He enjoyed cooking, skateboarding, art, hunting and fishing, but what he loved most was spending time with his son, Skylar, his family and friends.
He is survived by his son, Skylar Michael Bergin; his father, Matt and Terry O'Brien Blair of Sioux City; his mother, JoAnn (O'Connor) and Bill Booge of Pocahontas, Iowa; his brother and his wife, Ryan and Vanessa Blair of Omaha; his sister, Bridget Blair of Sioux City; his grandparents, Clair and Florence Blair of Sioux City, Mildred O'Connor of Pocahontas, Iowa, and Don and Ruth O'Brien of Sioux City; and aunts and uncles, Terry and Don Duzik, Tom and Janet Blair, Laurie and Mike Allner, Brad and Joann Blair, Julie and Jeff Peiffer, Brian and Mary O'Brien, John O'Brien, Shiuvaun and Jonathan Herbert, Elaine O'Connor, Kathy and Cal Hendrie and Jim and Jan O'Connor.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Allen O'Connor; and his aunt, Marguerite Monroe.
