Tiny was the sixth of eight children born to Fannie Jackson and Charles Harry Hayden. Her mother died when she was a toddler, so she and her siblings were raised by their maternal grandmother, Rachel Rustay Jackson.

On December 24, 1916, she married Walter Shoemaker, and they raised one daughter, Marjorie. Walter died in 1939, so Tiny moved in with Marjorie and her husband, Ralph Hittinger. She outlived both of them, and spent her last few years at the Gracedale County Home in Upper Nazareth Township, Pennsylvania.

I always enjoyed when my parents would take us to visit Tiny, Margie, Ralph, and their daughter, Sandy. Tiny had a pet parakeet, which she kept in a cage in the kitchen. I enjoyed feeding it while Tiny made homemade chicken soup and egg dumplings.
