90 years, 9 days old . Widowed. Died at 3213 North 27th. She had lived in Tacoma 6 months.

She is one of my 2nd Great Grandmothers.

She was born to Joseph and Ruth Paxton-Schultz in Bucks PA in 1816. She married Michael Kerrihard ( Kerryhart ) in 1849 in Bucks , PA. The family moved to Iowa soon thereafter. Maria moved out to Washington State with the Cook family from Red Oak , Iowa to Bellingham ( New Whatcom City) in 1902. Then to Tacoma in 1905/06.

I grew up with some traditions based on her life and presence eventhough she passed long before I was born . She was my Grandfather's Grandmother and she had a teapot that was a wedding gift to her in 1849. That teapot was
" Grandma Kerrihard's Teapot" ..and I have that little teapot now on my fire place mantle..My Grandfather used to take me around and tell me stories about all the knicknacks when I was 2 or 3 or 4 ..still small enough for him to pick me up and carry me around...and hear all about Grandma Kerrihard's teapot..it was my favorite knick knack story.

The sampler was made by Maria in 1829 when she was about 14 years old. As you can see she called herself " Mary P.Shults at that time. In those days being " Ethnic " wasnt fashionable like it is nowdays. So everyone wanted to fit in and just be 'American "..hence the name changes.
