VIROQUA — Audrey Louise Munson, 93, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at the Spring City Care and Rehabilitation Center in Spring City, Tenn.

She was born on May 4, 1920, to Samuel and Florence (Hale) Henry at Avalanche in Vernon County. Both parents died when she was young and she was raised by George and Mary (Hale) Henry. She graduated from Viroqua High School in 1937 and Vernon County Teacher's College. She taught at Lynn School near Rising Sun until her marriage in 1940. On Feb. 17, 1940 she married Melvin Munson at Waukon, Iowa. She was confirmed at North West Prairie Lutheran Church following her marriage where she had taught Sunday School, served as Youth League Advisor and had served seventeen years as Stewardship Secretary of the Esther Circle. She was a past President, a charter member and had served 10 years as Treasurer of the Viroqua Eagles No. 2707 Auxiliary. Audrey loved to bowl and was a member of the National 600 Honor Society. She also loved to play cards and dance. She was a busy farm wife and mother but still found time to work in town. She had worked at the Cheese Nugget, Viroqua Dairy, Little Chicago and Main Street Café. She and Melvin enjoyed many wonderful trips together. Some mothers complained that school vacations were too long but Audrey loved her children and sometimes she complained that she didn't have enough time to spend with them.

Audrey is survived by her sons, Langdon James Munson (Clarice) of Sparta, John Munson (Jean) of Crossville, Tenn., Robert Munson, and Charles Munson. She is also survived by her daughters, Angel Munson of Crossville, Tenn., Mary Cutshall of Seattle, Wash., and Jan Tollackson (Robert) of Hudson, Wis.; and by eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melvin Munson, June 2, 2003; one brother, Charles Henry; and one sister, Dorothy Garrett.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014 at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Burial will be in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A Viroqua Eagle Auxiliary Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

The family suggests memorials to either the Vernon County Historical Society or the Viroqua Eagles Cancer Fund.
