Soloman was born in Ohio to Nancy Watkins (1789-1844). His wife was Ellen Campbell (1855-1922). By Act of Congress, he purchased 160 acres in Red Mountain City, Territory of Montana on 13 June 1881. President Garfield signed documents. In the 1870 census, he lived in Hilliard, Moose and Camp gulches, Deer Lodge, Territory of Montana. He was a farmer and the value of his land was $2,000.
