He was the son of Alexander Tow and Sarah Ann (Stockton) Tow

He married Emma Elzabeth McGlaughlin on October 22, 1880 in Whitman County, Washington.

She was born on September 22, 1854 in Iowa and died June 24, 1947 in Deer Park, Spokane County, Washington.

From this union seven children were born:
(1) Jessie Mae Tow, b. 7.31.1881, d. 2.5.1981; married Rueben Rufus Lamb
(2) Hattie Lenora Tow, b. 4.1883, d. 11.30.1932; married Joseph Charles Logsdon
(3) Ida Olive Tow, b. 5.1.1885, d. 12.3.1971; married John Andrew Humbert
(4) James Elmer Tow, b. 3.3.1888, d. 9.4.1965
(5) Myrtle Ethel Tow, b. 2.17.1889; married Charles Brown
(6) Daisy Irene Tow, b. 2.1892; married Arthur Ayler
(7) Emmett Alonzo Tow, b. 2.9.1894; married Pearl Smith

Per Jim Tow: James' mother recorded his name as James Lonzo Tow and he signed his name James L. Tow. His mother could read and write, but her writing was influenced by the way words were pronounced by the people at that time. It may be that his parents intended to use the name Alonzo, but ended up with Lonzo. It should be noted that his obituary in Fallon, Nevada lists his name as James Alonzo Tow and his place of birth as North Dakota. It is well known that he killed two men in Taney County, Missouri and then fled the state for North Dakota. Following this he went west to Washington State. He relocated to an area known as Middlegate some 45 miles east of Fallon, Churchill County, Nevada in 1913.

I have the following chronology for James.
