R. T. Barksdale Dead
Distinguished Son of Warren County, Known Throughout the State

Mr. Robert Toombs Barksdale died at his residence, 947 Greene Street, yesterday afternoon, after an illness of several months. His death, while not a surprise, was unexpected and came as a sad blow to his family and friends.
Mr. Barksdale was born in Warren county, Georgia in 1847. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia. He practiced law for ten years and then resumed his former vocation, that of civil engineering. [Thomas graduated from the University of Georgia in 1869, was admitted to the bar in 1870. He practiced as a lawyer and civil engineer at Augusta, Georgia, and represented Warren County in the State Legislature, 1877-79.] He had a thorough knowledge of his duties, and, by close application to his work, he was soon regarded as one of the leading civil engineers of the state. He planned the course of many of the large railroads of the south. The citizens of Warren county recognized his many fine qualities and his ability and twice elected him to represent then in the state legislature.
His quiet dimeanor and gentlemanly manner were characteristic of the true man. His sterling integrity and high sense of honor, and his devotion to his wife and children, won for him a host of friends throughout the state. His death will be sincerely and universally mourned.
The deceased is survived by a bereaved widow, who was Miss Annie O'Hanlon of Macon, before marriage; one daughter, Mrs James A. Anderson, and one son, Master Laurent Barksdale.
The funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at 5 o'clock.
