SERVICES WEDNESDAY FOR GUST L. ABEL 85 YEARS OLD

RESIDENT HERE OVER 80 YEARS

August L. Abel, resident of the community for 83 years died in his home here early Monday morning. He was well known and well liked by almost every resident of the community. Services were held yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Trinity Lutheran Church of Dayton, with Rev. Luke officiating. Swanson and Carson were in charge of arrangements. Obituary will appear next week.

Gus Abel, as he preferred to be called by his friends, was born in Germany, but came to the United States when only two years old. He has lived in and around the community since that time, farming for years on his own farm northwest of town. Late years he has made his home with his sister here, Mrs. Carrie Luhmann. Gus has been a popular figure around the streets of Dayton for years, always good for a joke in his quiet way of talking, and alway son hand to get a laugh out of the latest jokes. He always laughed over a statement he says a Doctor in Rochester made at least 25 years ago. The Doctor told Gus he should go on home, there was nothing to do for him, and he had about a year to live. Gus told the M.D. he was wrong, and lived a life of good health for these many years. Dayton seems to be not the same as the Old Timers pass on.
