Rebecca, as she was known to her family, and as is recorded on her headstone, was born in Rockingham County, Virginia, her mother died less than a month later.

According to research of this family by Alva Trumbo Wood, Rebecca lived with her grandparents, John and Sarah Riddle, until their deaths. She then went to live with her sister, Sarah her husband, Robert Fawley, until about 1879. At this point, she went to live in Illinois, where at least 4 of her Trumbo aunts and uncles lived. According to family tradition, around 1885, Phillip and Rebecca moved to Marion County, Kansas where they lived till they died. Over the years, Rebecca did visit her family in Rockingham County, Virginia a number of times.

The 1900 and 1910 census reports indicate that Rebecca and Phillip were married about 1886. No marriage record has been located.

Rebecca and Phillip had no children.
