Gladys A. Ekholm, age 87, of Ashland, died Friday, August 11, 2006 at the Memorial Medical Center in Ashland. She was born August 15, 1918 in Ashland, the daughter of Hans and Bertha (Flemmen) Halverson.
Gladys graduated from Ondossagon High School. She married Clarence Ekholm and he preceded her in death in 1968.
Gladys worked as a cook for 29 years at the Marine Club in Ashland and later at the Hillmor Supper Club for a few years. She enjoyed doing volunteer work at several places including the Bargain Hut, the Northern Great Lakes Visitors Center and the Kitchen Band which played at different places in Ashland.
She enjoyed her clubs and was a member of the Pythians, the Eagles Club and the Sons of Norway. She is a member of the Saron Lutheran Church in Ashland.
She is survived by two daughters, Shelby Hartung of Fond du Lac and Judy Ohlsson of Ashland; four grandchildren: Kelly (Mike) Bartelt, Jamie (Mark) Birschbach, Scott (Amy) Steinmetz and Chad Resch; seven great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and sisters and three grandsons, Todd, Rob and Ryan.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, August 13, at the Frost Home For Funerals in Ashland with Rev. James Kasperson officiating.
Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will take place on Monday at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ashland.
