Lorraine May Rutherford
July 7, 1930 - Oct. 30, 2011

Lorraine was born in Brush, Colorado, the first of four children, to LeRoy and Annie Mize. When Lorraine was age five, the family moved from Colorado to Bend, Oregon, in search of work, as this was in the middle of the Great Depression.

After graduating from Bend High School in 1948, Lorraine worked as a telephone operator in Bend and in Tacoma, Washington where she lived with her lifelong friend, Yvette.

Lorraine married Franklin David Rutherford in February of 1953, living for a short time on the Rutherford family farm in Tumalo, Oregon, before living in Bend for several years. Frank and Lorraine were blessed by three "chosen" children, David, Laurie and Lisa.

Frank and Lorraine moved to Lacomb, Oregon, where they farmed for several years. There they shared their home with many foster children. Lorraine was in her element on the farm, gardening, sewing, cooking, canning and caring for the farm animals.

Moving to Colorado in the early 1980s, she worked as a cook at the local hospital and looked forward each fall to being head cook at hunting camps in the San Juan mountains.

Lorraine made several moves between Bend and Colorado in her later years before making her final move to Montrose, Colorado, where she lived in San Juan Care Center until her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Barbara Baumgardner, her former husband, Frank; and one grandchild.

Lorraine is survived by her son, David Rutherford and wife, Mary; her daughter, Lisa Lott all of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; her daughter, Laurie Hood of Glen- wood Springs, Colorado; brother, Larry Mize and wife, Georgie of Littleton, Colorado; sister, Margie Kramer and husband, Jerry of Montrose, Colorado; and 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service was held in Centennial, Colorado, on Friday, November 4, attended by close family and friends. A graveside service is scheduled for Thursday, November 10, at 2:00 pm, at Pilot Butte Cemetery in Bend, Oregon. Family and friends are welcome.

Memorial contributions in memory of Lorraine may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, PO Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402 or to the charity of your choice.
