Mrs. Laura F. Runkles, 96, of Thurmont, died on Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Glade Valley Nursing Home, Frederick. She was the wife for 52 years of Donald Runkles.

Born on August 22, 1912, in Sterling, Va., she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Sadie Woodward McCauley.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter Frances Hooper and her husband Daniel of Rocky Ridge; 22 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a niece, Mary Campell and former daughter-in-laws, Ruthie Pyle and Eva Zigler. Mrs. Runkles was preceded in death by six children, Carl, Floyd, James, Charles and Michael Bartholow and Dorothy Blumenaur; and also by her siblings Floyd, William and Dorothy McCauley.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9 at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10. The Rev. William Bucher will officiate. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. Those desiring may make memorial contributions in Mrs. Runkles name to the American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, MD 21784
