Leo was born October 19, 1929 in Dunlap, Iowa the son of Louie A. Brown and Gladys E. (Farley) Brown. He graduated from Dow City High School in Dow City, Iowa in 1948. Leo joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 and spent four years in the service with two years being in Japan during the Korean Conflict.

Leo had many interests. Early on he showed a love of photography. He ran a camera repair shop out of his home. He also took family portraits and developed them himself. He was in his element with computers. If he wasn't on one putting together the mailings for the Brown Family Reunion, he would be emailing jokes to friends or playing Solitaire! He enjoyed working with gadgets and built two TVs from kits.
If Leo wasn't in the house, you'd find him, puttering around in the garden or trimming trees. He loved trimming trees. Every time Lila would look outside there were a pile of limbs.

He started the Brown family reunion "picnic" and continued it for about 10 years until he had a stroke in 2005. Out of this he coordinated and had a Brown Family Cookbook published. He entered it at the Iowa State Fair and it came in third!

Leo volunteered at the Genealogical Society and the State Historical Society. His volunteer work at the State Historical Society garnered him the Governor's Volunteer award. He helped with taping services and programs at Rising Sun Church of Christ and the Rising Sun Learning Center.
Leo married Lila M. Greimann on October 18, 1953 in Kellerton, Iowa and they moved to Des Moines where he lived most of his life. He worked at AT&T for over 30 years until he retired in 1986. Leo was a member of Rising Sun Church of Christ, Highland Park American Legion Post #374, Telephone Pioneers of America and the Genealogical Society.
