US NAVY - WORLD WAR II, KOREA

Lt. Commander, Navy (Retired) Simonetti was the son of the late Ugo and Maria (DiLorenzo) Simonetti. He was a 1938 graduate of Altoona High School. Geno retired from the US. Navy as a Lieutenant Commander having served in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He began his carrier on the USS Witchita (CA-45) during WWII. Participated in both Pacific and Atlantic Operations. Attached to the British Hoime Fleet, the Witchita escorted convoys to Murmansk, Russia. He then participated in the Mormcco landings and saw action in Casablanca. In Jan, 1943, he transfered to Pacific and saw action in the Marshall Islands, Truk, Saipan, the Phillipine Sea, Guam, Mindanao, Luzon, Formosa, Leyte Gulf and Okinawa. He saw other action in various world events until his retirment in 1962 after 24 years of service. He is survived by his wife Anna D. (Veneziale) Simonetti, of 60 years whom he married September 11, 1943, one son; Geno Simonetti Jr. of Palmyra,
one daughter;Anne D. Woolley of Crofton MD.2 brothers Paul Simonetti and Guido Simonetti. Geno was 85 at his passing.
