Gertrude Doornink, 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 at the FirstReformed Church in Sioux Center. The Rev. Mark DeWitt officiated. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home.

Gertrude was born Dec. 9, 1911 in Sioux Center, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Houtsma) Addink.

She married Theodore Doornink on Sept. 28, 1932 in Elk Point, S.D. He died June 1, 1985.

She moved to Franken Manor in 1995. In 1996 she moved to the nursing wing of the Sioux Center hospital.

Mrs. Doornink was a member of the First Reformed Church and was active in the Mary Circle.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Nelton "Bud" and Carolyn of Sioux Center; three daughters, Betty and her husband Charles La Valley of Champlin, Minn., Sandra Van Ravenswaay of Sioux Center and Paulette and her husband Dave Vander Wei of Orange City; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; threestep-great-grandchildren;and three sisters, Dorothy Bruinsma, Dean and her husband Donald De Gooyer Sr., all of Sioux Center, and Leona Ten Napel of Folsom, Calif.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter; two brothers; and a sister.
