The family monument for the Schwanke plot. It is located in the 4th row from the east. Besides the family name, a biblical verse, Revelations 14:13 in German, is inscribed on the west face.

Fred was a sweet warm person. He never married but had many friends.

Fred Schwanke- circa 1913

Fritz W.C. Schwanke was born on March 17, 1893, in Howells, Nebraska. Fred's parents were Helene Retke and William Friedrich Schwanke. He was their fourth child and second son. His older sister, Ida (1887-1900), died when he was seven. His baby sister, Emma (1897), died when he was four. Fred never married. Instead, he remained with his parents to help manage the family farm in Maple Creek Township, Nebraska. He had many friends and was loved by his family. He took over sole management of the farm when his father died in 1926. He lived there with his mother until his premature death in 1932. Fred died in an automobile accident on December 6, 1932. Fred's car accidentally overturned on a country road. Sadly he died at the scene shortly after help had arrived. Fred's mother outlived three of her six children. After his death, Helene lived with her daughter, Lena, and her family.
