"Lieutenant J. Williams Biddle

We regret to learn from the War Department at Washington, that Lieutenant J. Williams Biddle, of the Seventh Cavalry, is reported as among the killed in Gen. Miles' last engagement with the Nez Perces. Lieutenant Biddle had just reached his twenty-second year; was a graduate of Princeton, and settled in the West soon after leaving college. He was lately appointed second lieutenant of Company K, in the Seventh Cavalry, when vacancies in the regiment occurred by General Custer's fight were being filled. Lieutenant Biddle was the son of the late Colonel Henry J. Biddle, of Philadelphia, who was killed during the seven days' battle before Richmond."
