A native of Surry County, he was a member of Mount Nebo Baptist Church, and retired from the Newport News Shipyard, Riggers Department, where he worked for 25 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Josephine Wright Drew of the home; a daughter, Irene Pierce of Smithfield; a granddaughter, Yvette Pierce of Norfolk; a sister-in-law, Malissa W. Johnson of Surry; a brother-in-law, Willie Wright of New Jersey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, at Mount Nebo Baptist Church, with the Rev. Daniel L. Baltimore, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Mount Ray Cemetery.
Viewing will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel and two hours prior to the service Monday at the church.
