MRS. AMANDA M. SHELTEN

Amanda May Stoll Shelten, eldest of nine children of Peter J. and Fannie Schindler Stoll was born February 16, 1892, near Gerstner, Mo.

She became a member of the Church of God at an early age.
She was united in marriage to James Thomas Shelten on September 12, 1909. Three chlldren blessed this union; Alma, Rachel and James. Jim and Amanda moved to a home near Latour, Mo. They lived most of their married life on different farms in the Garden City vicinity.

The family became members of the Garden City North Methodist Church. In 1939 Jim and Amanda moved to Creighton, Mo., where the spent the remainder of their lives. They moved their church membership to the Creighton United Methodist Church where they were faithful members as long as their health permitted.
Amanda departed this life at Westwood Home, Clinton Mo, Saturday, June 18 1983, at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 2 days.

She was preceded in death by her husbnd, J. T. Shelten, her parents, Peter J. and Fannie Schindler Stoll, four brothers, Earl, Dan, Clyde and Floyd Stoll, one sister, Mrs. Mary Stoll Yoder, one grandson Bill Joe Still, one step-grandson, Ray Pullen, and one step great-grandson, Wade Heidebrecht.
She leaves to mourn her passing her children, Alma Sloan and husband, Sam; Mrs. Rachel O'Bannon, James Shelten and wife, Lucille, all of Creighton, Mo; two brothers, Harold Stoll of Adrian, Mo., Joe Stoll and wife, Genniel of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great grandchldren, six step-great grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

The philosophy Amanda lived by and advised others to live by is expressed in Proverbs 22 1-2.

If you must choose, take a good name rather than great riches, for to be held in loving esteem is better than silver and gold.
The funeral service was conducted Tuesday morning, June 21 at the United Methodist Church in Creighton Mo with the Rev. Murray H. Jones officiating. Two songs, "Does Jesus Care" and "How Great Thou Art" were rendered by Mrs. Paulina Graef, soloist and Mrs. Esther Brown, organist.

The csket bearers were Everett Bonar, Garlin Foster, Gerald Graef, Everett Helms, George Michael Ryberg and William M. Ryberg.

Burial was made in the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Mo., with the Dickey Funeral Home of Garden City in charge of arrangements
