ORANGEBURG - Neal Archie Wilkes, 73, of Orangeburg, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012, in Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2012, in the Thompson Funeral Home chapel in Orangeburg, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg. The Rev. Jim Parnell will officiate. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., Orangeburg, is in charge. Mr. Wilkes was born December 15, 1938, in Orangeburg, S.C., the son of the late Norman Archie Wilkes and the late Jacqueline Hodges Wilkes Wactor. He was a 1963 graduate of The Citadel. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army, had retired as an engineer from the Atlanta Highway Department, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Atlanta. Survivors include his sister, Dixie Shealy of Orangeburg; a niece, Sheila Ann Shealy of Charleston; and a nephew, Michael Shealy of Clarksville, Tenn.
