Lenoir, NC- Mr. Larry Griffin, age 74, of Lenoir, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir. Born November 10, 1937 in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Hurley and Clementine Crump Griffin.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Hilda Houck, Ilene Chapman, Maudene Greene, Lethel Anderson, Lorie Craig; one step-daughter, Sharon Smith and one grandson, Spencer Shelton.

Mr. Griffin loved the Lord and was an ordained minister. He was a member of the House of Prayer Baptist Church and was a Sunday School teacher. He was the owner of Griffin Grading and enjoyed spending time with his friends. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed trips to the mountains. Larry was a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carolyn Gragg Griffin; 1 son, Larry Griffin, Jr. and wife Jacquelyn of Vale, NC; 3 step-daughters, Sheila Shelton and husband Randall of Albemarle; Donna Goodman of Granite Falls; Teresa Kincaid of Lenoir; one step-son, Gary Revis and wife Angie of Taylorsville; one sister, Linda Johnson and husband Lyndy of Lenoir; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Mr. Griffin's life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Crossroads Community Church with Reverend Rick Bowman, Reverend Leonard Younce and Reverend Howard Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church-Whitnel Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM, prior to the service at Crossroads Community Church.

Pallbearers will be: Lyndy Johnson, Charles Ballard, Barry Johnson, Gary Dillard, Joe Wilson, Aaron Dillard and Charlie Woodard.

Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, North Carolina, 28645.
